It’s no secret that there’s plenty of breweries in the area around Camp Cardinal where you can have a night out with your buddies and enjoy some craft beers. Just ask Siri to “find a brewery near me” and you’ll see.
But let’s say you’re in the mood for brews, but your partner would rather relax with a cup of coffee. Or maybe you want to be able to bring the kids along.
Frothy Moon Brewhouse has you covered.
Resting on the side of Jamestown Road in Williamsburg (a mere 25 miles from Camp Cardinal), Frothy Moon offers not only refreshing craft-made IPAs, ales, and other alcoholic beverages, but also a range of coffee options plus a delicious root beer – appropriately named “Space Camp.” Yes, the same Space Camp you can buy now in our camp store.
In the mornings, while the beer is being brewed in the back, Frothy Moon functions less like a brewery and more like a coffeehouse. People gather for morning meetings, to get work done, or just to catch up with a friend over a cup of joe.
And their coffee is legit – single-sourced from a farm in Curitejo, San Roque, Piñas, Ecuador, the beans are farmed by a singular family, the Ochoas, and makes only one stop – at the roaster – between there and Frothy.
The beans go through a processing facility to ensure that they are the highest possible quality – first, the debris is removed; then, the coffee cherry is removed from the bean; finally, the coffee is sorted into three groups based on size, with the larger beans being chosen for their higher quality. Then the coffee goes through a process called honey washing, with the husks being fermented with local honey for up to 72 hours and then dried completely, leaving behind a smooth, sweet, milk-chocolatey aftertaste.
It’s the type of quality coffee that’s easy to drink black, but just as good with cream and sugar. And of course, you don’t have to be a coffee connoisseur to recognize that this is a good cup of coffee. Yes, the same ground coffee you can buy now in our camp store.
There’s a gradual shift in the vibe and attitude of the brewhouse as the day switches from morning to afternoon to evening. People start coming in for after-work drinks, to enjoy some beers with friends and to unwind as the summer night begins to fall.
But we believe that there’s nothing better than a night out with the family – and Frothy is perfect for that, too. Parents can sip on a Hazy IPA with the kiddos enjoying drinking an ice-cold Space Camp root beer pulled from the same draft line.
This (caffeine-free!) root beer is brewed in-house from start to finish — with a simple recipe that includes real raw sugar, honey, and yucca – right in the back alongside the beer. And the best part is, it’s not just for kids – everybody likes root beer. So if you’re having a night out with friends but you’re not in the mood for alcohol, you can still settle at the bar with a drink.
Of course, you don’t have to sit at the bar, either. Right behind the building sits Frothy’s bier garden, where you can soak up the summer breeze under the shade of a wooden canopy – and also grab some grub from a local food truck.
From beer to coffee to soda, the brewhouse has something available for everybody – no matter your age, palate, or mood, you’ll always be able to find something to enjoy in the welcoming, upbeat atmosphere of Frothy Moon.
